Matthew 1:25 — Obedience Before Understanding
“But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.” — Matthew 1:25 (NIV)
Matthew 1:25 may seem like a simple verse finishing the story of Jesus’ birth, but hidden inside it is a powerful example of faith, obedience, and trust.Joseph found himself in a situation he never expected. His plans for marriage, family, and the future suddenly looked completely different. Yet after the angel revealed God’s plan, Joseph chose obedience. He took Mary as his wife, honored what God asked of him, and when the child was born, he named Him Jesus — just as he had been instructed.
That small act of naming Him was actually a big act of faith.Joseph was accepting his role in a story he didn’t write. He didn’t demand every answer before obeying. He didn’t need to understand every detail before trusting God’s direction. He simply took the next faithful step.How often do we want God to explain the whole journey before we move? We want the map, the timeline, and the reason behind every difficult season. But Joseph reminds us that faith often means trusting God with the parts we cannot see.This verse also points us back to the miracle of Jesus. The Savior of the world entered quietly — as a baby placed into the care of ordinary people who chose extraordinary obedience.God didn’t choose perfect people. He chose willing people.Joseph’s obedience teaches us that our “yes” to God matters. We may not always understand what He is doing, but we can trust the One who is leading us.

Am I waiting for God to explain everything before I obey, or am I willing to trust Him one faithful step at a time?
Prayer:
Lord, help me have faith like Joseph. Teach me to trust You even when I don’t understand the whole picture. Give me the courage to obey, knowing that Your plans are greater than mine. Amen.
