Knowing About God vs. Knowing God
Matthew 2:4 — “When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.”
When King Herod heard about the birth of Jesus, he immediately gathered the religious leaders and asked where the Messiah was supposed to be born. These were people who knew Scripture. They had studied the prophecies. They had the knowledge and the answers.But something interesting happens—they knew where to find Jesus, yet they didn’t go looking for Him.The wise men traveled a great distance following a star because they wanted to worship the King. Meanwhile, the religious leaders were close by, holding the very words that pointed to Him, but their hearts seemed unmoved.It’s a powerful reminder that knowing facts about God is not the same as having a relationship with Him.We can read Bible verses, go to church, listen to sermons, and know all the “right answers,” but God desires more than our knowledge—He desires our hearts. He wants us to seek Him, walk with Him, and allow His truth to change the way we live.
Matthew 2:4 challenges us to look deeper. Are we simply familiar with Jesus, or are we truly following Him?The greatest journey isn’t measured in miles like the wise men’s journey. It’s the journey of moving God’s truth from our minds into our hearts.
Prayer:
Lord, help me not only learn about You but truly know You. Give me a heart that seeks You daily and doesn’t become comfortable just knowing the answers. Draw me closer to You and help me live out my faith. Amen.

Am I only learning about Jesus, or am I actively seeking Him in my everyday life?
