Matthew 2:19 – God Speaks After the Storm

“After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.” — Matthew 2:19

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. We often want God to act immediately, but His timing is rarely the same as ours. Matthew 2:19 reminds us that God never forgets His children. When the danger had passed and the time was right, God spoke again to Joseph with clear direction.

Joseph had spent an unknown amount of time living in Egypt, far from home. He didn’t know how long the journey would last or when it would end. Yet he remained faithful, trusting God one step at a time.

How often do we find ourselves in an “Egypt” season? It may be a season of uncertainty, grief, waiting, or feeling stuck. We pray, but heaven seems silent. We wonder if God has forgotten us.

Matthew 2:19 gives us hope. God’s silence is not His absence. Even when we cannot see Him working, He is preparing the next step. When the time is right, He will open the door that no one else can.

Notice that Joseph didn’t force his own plan. He didn’t return early because he was tired of waiting. He trusted God’s timing, and when God spoke, Joseph obeyed.

Sometimes our greatest challenge isn’t hearing God’s voice—it’s waiting patiently until He speaks.

If you’re in a season of waiting, don’t lose heart. The same God who guided Joseph through uncertainty is guiding your life today. His delays are never wasted. They are often the place where He grows our faith, strengthens our character, and prepares us for what comes next.Trust that God’s timing is always perfect, even when it doesn’t match your own.

Am I willing to wait for God’s direction, or do I often rush ahead because His timing feels too slow?

Prayer:

Father, help me trust Your timing when I don’t understand it. Give me the patience to wait, the faith to obey when You speak, and the confidence that You are working even in seasons of silence. Like Joseph, may I follow wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
