Matthew 2:11 — The Gift That Jesus Truly Deserves
Scripture:”On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” — Matthew 2:11 (NIV)
The wise men had traveled a long, difficult journey. They crossed unfamiliar lands, followed a single star, and overcame countless obstacles—not because they were looking for a king to impress, but because they were searching for the King worthy of their worship.
When they finally found Jesus, they didn’t begin by presenting their gifts. They bowed down and worshiped Him first.
That order matters.Worship came before the gifts.Too often, we focus on what we can do for God. We try to earn His approval through our service, our giving, or our accomplishments. But God isn’t looking for impressive performances. He desires hearts that humbly surrender before Him.
The gifts themselves were deeply meaningful. Gold recognized Jesus as King. Frankincense pointed to His divine nature and priestly role. Myrrh foreshadowed His suffering and sacrifice for humanity. Whether the wise men fully understood the significance of their gifts or not, God did.
Today, we may not have gold, frankincense, or myrrh to offer, but we all have treasures we can place before Jesus—our time, our talents, our obedience, our kindness, our prayers, and our trust.The greatest gift we can give Him is a heart that says, “Lord, everything I have belongs to You.”Jesus is still worthy of worship. He is still worthy of our best. And just as the wise men discovered long ago, those who seek Him with sincere hearts will always find Him.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the King worthy of all worship. Help me to seek You with the same determination as the wise men. Teach me to worship You before I offer anything else, and remind me that the greatest gift I can give is a heart fully surrendered to You. May my life honor You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
