The Man at the Gate

Acts 3 introduces us to a man who had been lame from birth. Every day, he was carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he begged for money from those entering the temple. On this particular day, he noticed Peter and John approaching and did what he had likely done thousands of times before—he asked for a handout.What he didn’t know was that God was about to give him something far greater than he expected.Looking for One Thing, Receiving AnotherThe lame man was focused on his immediate need: money. He believed that financial help would make his day a little easier. But God saw a deeper need. Through Peter and John, God was preparing to bring healing, restoration, and a brand-new future.How often are we like this man?We come to God asking for one thing—a new job, a relationship, a solution to a problem—while God is working on something much bigger than we can imagine. We see the need in front of us; God sees the whole picture.God’s Answers May Surprise UsPeter famously responded:”Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.” (Acts 3:6)The man expected coins. Instead, he received healing. He expected temporary relief. God provided complete transformation.Sometimes we become discouraged when God doesn’t answer our prayers exactly the way we hoped. Yet His “different” answer may actually be His better answer.God is not limited by our expectations.Be Available for God to UsePeter and John could have walked by. Many others probably had. But they stopped, looked at the man, and allowed God to work through them.As followers of Christ, we should ask ourselves:- Am I attentive to the needs around me?- Am I willing to stop when God prompts me?- Could God use me to be an answer to someone else’s prayer today?Sometimes the greatest ministry happens in unexpected moments.A Beautiful ReminderThe gate was called Beautiful, but the truly beautiful thing that day wasn’t the architecture—it was God’s grace on display. A man who came expecting spare change left with healed legs, renewed hope, and a powerful testimony.Acts 3:3 reminds us that God often meets us when we least expect it. We may come asking for one thing, but His plans are bigger, better, and more life-changing than we could ever imagine.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for seeing beyond my immediate needs and knowing exactly what I truly need. Help me trust Your plans, even when Your answers look different from what I expect. Open my eyes to opportunities to serve others and be used by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
