When God Says, “It’s Time”
Matthew 2:20
“Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.” — Matthew 2:20 (NIV)
There are seasons in life when God asks us to wait. Then there are seasons when He says, “It’s time.”
Joseph had been living in Egypt with Mary and Jesus because God warned him that King Herod intended to kill the Christ child. He didn’t leave because it was convenient. He left because God told him to. And now, after a season of uncertainty, another message comes: “Get up… go back.”What stands out is God’s perfect timing.Joseph didn’t have to constantly wonder when it would be safe to return. He didn’t have to rely on rumors or his own instincts. God knew exactly when the danger had passed and spoke at precisely the right moment.
The same God who told Joseph when to leave also told him when to return.
Sometimes we grow impatient while waiting for God to move. We want answers now. We want doors to open today. But God’s delays are never without purpose. He sees what we cannot. He knows when hearts have changed, when circumstances have shifted, and when the path is finally clear.
Maybe you’re waiting for a new opportunity, healing, restoration, or direction. It can feel like you’re living in your own “Egypt,” wondering if you’ll ever move forward.
Take heart. God hasn’t forgotten you.
When it’s time, He will make it clear. His timing is never late, even when it feels slow to us. Until then, our calling is the same as Joseph’s: remain faithful where God has placed us and be ready to move when He speaks.The God who guides your waiting is the same God who directs your next step.
Reflection
Are you trying to force a door open that God has asked you to wait on? Or are you willing to trust that His timing is wiser than your own?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God of perfect timing. Help me to trust You in seasons of waiting and to obey You when You call me to move. Give me patience when the road seems long and courage when You open the next door. Remind me that You see what I cannot and that Your plans are always for my good and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
