Seeking the King — Matthew 2:2
“Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” — Matthew 2:2 (KJV)
The wise men traveled a great distance because they saw something that pointed them toward Jesus. They didn’t have every detail. They didn’t know exactly where the journey would take them. But they knew one thing — the King was worth searching for.What stands out about Matthew 2:2 is their purpose: “We have come to worship Him.” They didn’t come looking for Jesus because they wanted something from Him. They came because they recognized who He was.How often do we seek God only when we need answers, comfort, or help? God welcomes us in those moments, but the wise men remind us that Jesus is worthy of being pursued simply because He is Lord.Their journey also teaches us about faith. They followed a star before they ever saw the Savior. Sometimes God gives us just enough light for the next step, not the entire path. Faith means trusting Him while we’re still traveling.The world was busy around them. Many people missed the miracle happening right in front of them. But these travelers noticed, followed, and worshiped.Today, we can ask ourselves:Am I seeking Jesus for what He can give me, or am I seeking Him because of who He is?Like the wise men, may we have hearts willing to follow wherever God leads and recognize that finding Jesus is the greatest treasure of all.
Prayer:
Lord, help me seek You with a sincere heart. Teach me to follow Your guidance even when I don’t see the whole journey ahead. May my life be filled with true worship, not only because of what You do, but because of who You are. Amen.
