Prepare the Way
Scripture:”In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea.” — Matthew 3:1 (NIV)
Sometimes God chooses the places we least expect to begin His greatest work.
John the Baptist didn’t arrive in a palace or preach from a famous temple. He came from the wilderness—a dry, lonely place where few people would think to look for God’s messenger. Yet it was there that hearts were awakened, lives were changed, and the way was prepared for Jesus Christ.The wilderness is more than a location; it’s often a season of life. It may look like loneliness, uncertainty, disappointment, illness, financial struggle, or waiting. We naturally want to escape those seasons, but God often uses them to get our attention in ways comfort never could.
John’s message was simple but powerful: prepare your heart. Before the Savior’s public ministry began, people were called to examine their lives, turn from sin, and make room for the King. That same invitation still echoes today.
The question isn’t whether Jesus is coming—He has come, and He will come again. The question is whether our hearts are prepared to follow Him. Have we allowed distractions, bitterness, pride, or fear to crowd Him out? Or are we making room for Him to reign in every part of our lives?If you find yourself in a wilderness season today, don’t assume God has abandoned you. He may be doing His deepest work there. The wilderness can become the birthplace of spiritual renewal when we choose to listen to His voice.
God often prepares us before He promotes us. He shapes our character before He changes our circumstances. And sometimes the quiet places become the very places where we hear Him most clearly.

What “wilderness” are you walking through today, and how might God be using it to prepare your heart for what He wants to do next?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for meeting me even in the wilderness. Help me not to waste difficult seasons but to allow You to shape my heart through them. Remove anything that keeps me from drawing closer to You, and prepare me for the plans You have ahead. Give me ears to hear Your voice and a heart that is ready to follow wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
